Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2007 designed to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.  This ceremony was started in 1992 by Morrill Worcester when his wreath company donated 5,000 wreaths to be placed on the headstones of Soldiers.  The Navy Wives Clubs of America hosts this annual event and through donations, and the help of volunteers, place more and more wreaths every year honoring those who have served their country with honor.

This was the fifth annual gala auction for the Institute of Flight Foundation with the purpose of raising funds for their organization, which is aimed at turning young children on to the idea of aeronautics and engineering.  The theme for this event was, given that it fell on the weekend following Back to the Future Day (October 21, 2015), centered around the film.  Festivities included a cover band playing hits from the film as well as volunteers dressed up as the popular characters Doctor Emmit Brown and Marty McFly from the first two films as well as a chance for patrons to have their photo taken in a DeLorean that was on loan for the event.  The auction itself, run by former host of Evening Magazine John Curley, was a ton of fun for everybody involved and raised a substantial amount for the cause.

Salmon For Soldiers

Everett Marina, Washington - August 29, 2015

This is the third annual event to honor wounded veterans.  Veterans team up with volunteers and boat captains (many of whom are veterans themselves) to spend the day fishing out of Everett, Washington.   Afterward, all pre-registered participants are invited to a barbecue and raffle drawings.  Salmon for Soldiers is a non-profit organization and run entirely by volunteers with a collection of sponsors to off-set operating costs.  Check out the link below to learn more about the event and sponsors supporting the event.

Although the weather this year was severe enough to cancel the fishing portion of the event, spirits were still high as all attendees took part in the remaining festivites, which were a big hit.
